Chapter 4: Assignments
The last chapter of “The Titus Ten” was about our identity. Before we can understand what God has called us to do, we have to understand who we are in Christ. Identity always comes before assignment. But once we know who we are, we can begin living out what we were created to do. Our assignments will change throughout life, but our purpose remains the same: to glorify God in whatever He has entrusted to us.
Paul writes in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Also, Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” These verses remind us that God is not only interested in the big moments of life. He cares about how we approach every assignment He places before us. No matter how small, every task can become an act of worship when it is done for Him.
One of the lessons I’ve learned is that God often changes our assignments throughout our lives. There are seasons of being a student, a son or a daughter, an employee, a spouse, a parent, a leader, or a friend. Sometimes we spend so much time wishing for the next assignment that we neglect the one God has already placed in front of us. I’ve learned that faithfulness in today’s assignment is often what prepares us for tomorrow’s.
So whether you’re a husband, wife, student, teacher, coach, parent, employee, or serving in any other role, remember who you’re ultimately working for. Work wholeheartedly as if heaven is watching, because it is. Let every assignment, no matter how small it seems, bring glory to God. When we remain faithful with what He’s placed in our hands today, we become a reflection of Him to the world around us.
